Our experience at the Amber Palace
Our experience at the Amber Palace was indeed a magical one. This place is one of the most surreal examples of Rajput architecture. A captivating combination of Hindu and Mughal culture, the Amber fort features a magnificent red sandstone and marble structure that makes it a sight to behold.
Since we wanted to know every bit of detail about this palace, we hired a tour guide who walked us through the high ramparts and the cobbled parts, explaining the ancient history of this stunning palace. A former capital of Kachhawah rulers, the Amber Palace was constructed by Raja Man Singh I, one of the nine gems of the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Upon entering the palace, we were astounded to witness the vibrant architectural design and the ornate wall and ceiling carvings that depict the lively Rajputi culture. Apart from these intricate designs, we witnessed different chambers in the Amber Palace, each holding a significant purpose. Amongst all these chambers, some popular ones are the Diwan-e-Khas or the Hall of Private Audience and Diwan-e-Aam or the Hall of Public Audience.
We also came across the famous Sheesh Mahal, famously known as the Hall of Mirrors. This Sheesh Mahal contains breathtaking mirror mosaics and tinted glasses. Our guide informed us that during the ancient era, when a single candle got lit, its reflections inside the Sheesh Mahal made it look like a thousand stars were shining.
