Despite modernisation, mules remain Army’s logistics backbone

The Indian Army is modernizing logistics by replacing mules with motorized vehicles and robotic mules. However, GS mules remain indispensable in remote, challenging terrains, carrying up to 80 kg of supplies. MA mules, used for transporting heavy mortar guns, are being phased out. Over 4,000 mules continue to operate in areas where helicopters have operational limits. Mules undergo rigorous training and are crucial for the Army’s logistics in inaccessible regions.
